In a significant development just before the New Year, federal authorities in Los Angeles have managed to thwart a suspected terror plot purportedly organized by an extremist group. The Turtle Island Liberation Front, an offshoot of a pro-Palestinian anti-government movement, had planned a series of bomb attacks across southern California on New Year's Eve.
According to the FBI, four alleged members—Audrey Illeene Carroll, Zachary Aaron Page, Dante Gaffield, and Tina Lai—were arrested last week while preparing for their attack. They were on their way to the desert east of Los Angeles to test improvised explosive devices when law enforcement intercepted them.
Officials note that the plot involved targeting at least five locations, including two business logistics centers aimed to be struck at midnight on New Year's Eve. Additionally, the suspects discussed potential attacks on Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) personnel.
The U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi revealed that this group was prevented from executing what she described as a “massive and horrific terror plot.” The suspects, now facing serious charges related to conspiracy and possession of unregistered explosives, had carried precursor chemicals to create destructive devices.
Thanks to surveillance footage captured from aerial operations, law enforcement successfully intervened without any incidents. LA Police Chief Jim McDonnell praised the collaboration among various agencies to prevent a potential tragedy, signifying a strong commitment to safeguarding the community.
As investigations continue, authorities remain vigilant, ensuring that any further threats are neutralized.
